Outdoor Science Education

Dedicated to empowering science education, fostering stewardship, and improving watershed health.

What We Do

Through a series of hands on creek ecology based activities students learn about the cultural and natural histories of our watershed. During field trips students remove invasive non-native plants from local parks and plant native plants improving habitat for native wildlife. They open their minds to new ways of seeing the world and they have fun doing it!

Our Concern

In recent years public education curriculum has increasingly focused on the core subjects of math, reading, and writing leaving little room for other important subjects such as science and the arts. By developing activities that focus on these subjects we provide educational opportunities that are not otherwise available. During field trips to local parks and nature reserves we fill an educational void while connecting young citizens to their local environment and instilling a sense of stewardship through community involvement. Kids and Creeks provides standards based experiential learning opportunities that would not otherwise be available to local students.

Kids and Creeks participants have restored and maintained the health of over 210,000 square feet of riparian habitat along Big and Little Chico Creeks, hosted field trips for over 8,000 students from 60 elementary school classes, given thousands of volunteers the opportunity to provide over 10,000 hours in community service, educated 800 community members in watershed sciences and stewardship, and won the prestigious CA EPA Governor’s Award.

Children's Songs for All Big and Small is a compilation of traditional and original folk songs for children and adults alike. Performed and produced by local Chico artists.
